Community values
Code of Conduct
Here at the University, we are committed to our Code of Conduct and the values of honesty, fairness, trust, accountability and respect.
The Code aims to protect the integrity and professionalism of our graduates, as well as our learning and teaching, research and innovation, and engagement activities.
Respect. Now. Always.
In early 2016, universities across Australia launched the Respect. Now. Always. initiative, to address the issue of sexual assault and harassment in university communities.
This led to the first-ever national student survey on sexual assault and harassment, conducted by the Australian Human Rights Commission. We use the results of this and other student feedback to make sure we are continuously improving services to students, and creating a safe and welcoming environment.
Consent Matters module
The Consent Matters course covers the areas of sexual consent, communication, relationships, and bystander intervention. It is designed to help you understand how to seek consent, how to recognise consent, and how to identify situations where consent can’t be given.
Taken online via Canvas, the course is compulsory for all students.
Access and excellence
The University is proud of a long history of ensuring equity of access to higher education for people from a broad spectrum of backgrounds.
Supporting dedicated, talented students – regardless of their personal circumstances or background – is central to the University’s identity.
Through our enabling programs, we have helped tens of thousands of students access tertiary education, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable things for themselves and their community.
Diversity and inclusion
We value and celebrate diversity in our student and staff populations. We believe it is important to provide an inclusive environment for all students and staff.
The Equity and Diversity Coordinator is available for:
- Consultation to develop and implement equity and diversity strategies throughout the University
- Support student initiatives to promote inclusion
- Advice on where to go for Student Support.
Student conduct
As a student at the University, you are expected to abide by the University’s Student Conduct Rule. If you do something that breaches the rule, you may be issued with a penalty.
There is a formal process associated with a penalty, and you will have the opportunity to explain what happened in your own words.
You can also appeal a University decision, including a decision made under the Student Conduct Rule.
