Description
This is the capstone course for the Master of Nurse Practitioner program where students prepare to fully take up their Nurse Practitioner identity. Critically analysing their advanced clinical practice, students (re)turn their gaze to the professional responsibilities and technologies of their professional self as a Nurse Practitioner in Australia. Students will have multiple opportunities to engage with specialist theory and final skills development to enhance their growth as an advanced clinician. With their proven theoretical and clinical readiness, shown particularly through the achievement of the NMBA Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice, students will be able to seek endorsement, on program completion, as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. This course utilises Integrated Professional Practice hours, including embedded clinical supervision, to assist students meet the final learning outcomes in the Master of Nurse Practitioner program.This capstone course is coordinated by a Nurse Practitioner, pulling together the four domains in NMBA 2021 Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice; Clinical, Education, Research and Leadership, under the umbrella of person-centred care. The delivery of modules within the course follows this framework to enhance the students’ Nurse Practitioner identity.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. clearly articulate the complexities of the Nurse Practitioner identity in the present, and projected into the foreseeable future, considering the domains of clinical, education, leadership and research for the Nurse Practitioner
2. critically analyse, and undertake, advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for individuals/groups/communities, including the choice and use of diagnostics, both pathology and medical imaging, and the prescription of medicines
3. show advanced understanding of risk and measurement for continuous improvement in Nurse Practitioner practice, particularly as they apply to the Nurse Practitioner metaspecialties
4. critically analyse major processes in healthcare, for example, informatics, cultural safety, education, research, leadership, technology and/or business thorough the needs of clients/patients/groups/communities
5. demonstrate meeting the NMBA Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice to show theoretical and clinical readiness to seek endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
