Description

Practicing exercise physiologists are required to work within integrated health care teams under a variety of legislative, practice and ethical frameworks. This course will assist students in developing an understanding of the scope of practice and regulations surrounding the profession and practice environment of an accredited exercise physiologist. Students will develop an understanding of the role of an exercise physiologist relative to other health disciplines in managing chronic and complex disease.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Identify the professional roles and scope of practice of an accredited exercise physiologist;

2. Recognise the role of an exercise physiologist in patient care and refer to other appropriate medical allied health profession;

3. Critically assess legislation relevant to exercise physiology practice within the national compensation schemes;

4. Clearly communicate with key stakeholders within national health care framework in both written and verbal forms;

5. Analyse the health care needs of the community and design an exercise physiology intervention to meet these needs.

Requisite

Students must be enrolled in either the Master of Exercise Physiology [40243] or the Graduate Diploma in Exercise and Chronic Disease Management [40244] Programs to enrol in this course.


Assumed knowledge

It is assumed that students have completed an undergraduate exercise and sport science degree or a similar degree.
