Description

CRIM4040 is part two of the thesis component of the Bachelor of Criminology (Hons), the first being CRIM4030. The honours thesis gives students the opportunity to put the skills they have acquired over the course of their undergraduate studies and the honours coursework into advanced practice in the form of a substantial project. This project can be in one of three formats: 1) Academic, 2) Work-Integrated Learning, or 3) Creative/Digital.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills through maintaining a professional relationship with a mentor.

2. Apply disciplinary specific conventions to communicate research methods and procedures to an academic audience.

3. Demonstrated capacity to argue at macro and micro levels to the equivalent of a 15,000-20,000 word thesis (in conjunction with CRIM4030).

4. Effective articulation of a research design that illustrates the alignment of research problems and research methods with an explanatory theoretical and epistemic framework.

5. Conclusive use of independent data collection skills and procedures to generate defendable research findings.


Content

Drafting and editing a major piece of written work – 8000-10000 for CRIM4030, and in total between 15000-20000 words when combined with CRIM4030.


Requisite

Students must have successfully completed CRIM4010 and CRIM4020 to enrol in this course.


Assumed knowledge

A minimum credit average in criminology major or degree.
