UNI STEPS is a portfolio of learning experiences/engagements for local school aged students and community members to engage with the University, to include but not limited to a mix of on campus/ community learning/ online learning/in school/industry experiences. The University is engaging with students at pivotal decision times in their learning journey.
This initiative has the following steps:
1: FOUNDATION – children from years 3 - 6 are invited to join Children’s University (Newcastle) to access additional connections to educational learning opportunities and experiences beyond the classroom
2: TRANSITION– strengthening transition across 7 and 8, supporting the development of academic skills and connecting students to local community education providers beyond school.
3: PREPARATION– understanding educational structures and opportunities available in years 9 and 10.
4: PATHWAY– opportunity to commence University Enabling pathway programs concurrently with year 11/12 study.
5: UNI NEXT – working with adults and non-school leavers from community organisations, charities, and industry to gain skills required to access the suite of enabling pathway course options.
Specific commonwealth IRLSAF funded initiative, designed to prioritise the redistribution of educational resourcing/opportunities by engaging with communities that may have disrupted education histories.
