The Aspen Medical Foundation is committed to supporting the undertaking of life-changing healthcare through significantly reducing or eradicating key illnesses and diseases in remote Australian communities and to providing education for the sustainability of improved health practices. The Aspen Medical Foundation aligns its support to initiatives such as scholarships, which will make a practical and immediate difference in the lives of people living in these remote and medically challenged communities.
This scholarship has been established by the Aspen Medical Foundation in 2023 to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying in the following health-related degrees:
- Bachelor of Nursing
- Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)
- Bachelor of Midwifery
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy
- Bachelor of Psychological Science
- Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)
- Bachelor of Social Science
- Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)
- Bachelor of Medical Science / Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program)
- Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Nuclear Medicine)
- Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Honours) (Radiation Therapy)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Health Science (Honours)
- Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours)
- Bachelor of Podiatry
- Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours).

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Be enrolled in any year of the eligible undergraduate degree programs with the University of Newcastle
- Establish your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage with the university as outlined here.
- Demonstrate academic progress either by the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent required for entry for commencing students, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0 for continuing students.
- Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.
Required Documentation
Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.
- A personal statement (approx. 1 A4 page) outlining your academic achievements, career aspirations in the relevant area of study, and how this scholarship would assist you. This statement will cover all scholarships you are submitting for.
Benefit
The scholarship provides a benefit of $5,000 each year for up to 3 years of study in your program, with a total value of $15,000.
This will be paid to be paid as two lump sums of $2,500 after semester one and semester two census dates in each year.
Selection
Selection is a competitive process and will be based on assessment of the scholarship application and any required supporting documents.
