Credit transfer and pathways

Credit and Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) for previous study

Students who can demonstrate that they have covered relevant content and achieved sufficient learning outcomes in their prior study may receive credit or recognition of prior learning (RPL) for coursework at the University of Newcastle. The credit and RPL granted could help you complete your degree earlier or study new subjects rather than repeat prior learning.

Most often, we award credit to students who have completed Diploma programs or part of a Bachelor degree.  It is best to submit your credit application with the supporting documentation at the time of application using Newcastle's online application portal. The awarded credit is governed by the Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning Policy which outlines the requirements for assessing credit and RPL.

Pathway options

For international students who do not meet either the language or academic requirements for entry into a program, a range of pathway courses are available.

University of Newcastle English Language Bridging pathway programs are taught at our Callaghan campus and offered in multiple intakes throughout the year.

College of International Education offers a fully-accredited pathway to University of Newcastle degrees if you do not have the academic requirements for direct entry, or would prefer to study the first year of your undergraduate degree in a supportive environment especially designed for international students.

TAFE NSW

Technical and Further Education NSW, (TAFE NSW) is Australia's leading vocational education and training provider.  We have pathways with TAFE and recognise credit from it across a number of our programs. Check the credit transfer catalogue for a list for our approved credit agreements.
