University Department of Rural Health & Rural Clinical School

Welcome to the University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) and the Rural Clinical School (RCS). The UDRH and RCS has made it possible for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying either medicine, nursing, nutrition and dietetics, medical radiation science, physiotherapy, oral health, podiatry, occupational therapy, and pharmacy at The University of Newcastle to complete a large part of their education and training in a rural setting at one of our four locations Tamworth, Armidale, Taree, or Moree.

The University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) covers approximately 20% of the land area of New South Wales and includes Tamworth, Armidale, Taree, Moree and the surrounding communities in a corridor of land that stretches north to the town of Tenterfield on the border of New South Wales. In addition to providing rural placements for undergraduate students, the UDRH also actively recruits postgraduate students and carries out research projects. It is hoped that the UDRH will provide a valuable community service and be recognised as an important part of the solution to the rural health crisis. The RCS operates in partnership with the UDRH and covers the same land area. The RCS is dedicated to providing support to medical students who are completing 12 month placements in the area.
