Teaching and Learning
In the Faculty of Health, our teaching and learning is characterised by work-based experiential learning, community-based learning, flexibility in approach, and the use of relevant and contemporary information technology.
We are committed to excellence
Our commitment to teaching excellence is reflected in the initiatives we have put in place for our staff in three broad areas. Firstly, we have internationally recognised staff. In addition, we employ leaders in all disciplines. Our staff are also able to access ongoing staff development and are encouraged and supported to apply for awards which recognise excellence in teaching and learning, such as teaching scholarships.
Supporting student learning
We are committed to ensuring that our students have a high quality learning experience, whatever their degree program. To support this commitment, we have introduced peer support processes and student mentoring, flexible delivery of courses and targeted support for Indigenous students.
In addition, all students enrolled in programs in our faculty are supported by over 800 conjoint staff and take part in a wide range of professional experiences early in their programs.
Access to modern technologies
We ensure that undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and research students are all provided with access to academics of national repute and online support through the use of Blackboard. Our students are able to utilise Faculty support 24/7 and many of them benefit greatly from exposure to information technology which facilitates the process of lifelong learning.
Our faculty teaches students in 18 undergraduate programs across four Campuses and 22 sites. We are committed to providing a high quality, professionally-focused educational experience across all these areas.
Award-winning staff
Finally, our faculty has enjoyed the success of recent teaching and learning achievements through winning several Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching. This success has been recognised by the Carrick Institute, and four staff in our faculty have been awarded citations for excellence in Teaching and Learning by the Carrick Institute. These are significant achievements of which we are proud.
