Human Ethics Peer Review
In 2007 the University adopted a new procedure to streamline the process of peer review for research proposals submitted for ethics approval. Part of this process is aimed at ensuring that any research approved by the University is of sound design and high scholarly standard. This procedure will provide scientific peer review for any research proposal involving humans that has not already been scientifically peer reviewed by another body. Therefore all NEAF and HREC applications for research not resulting from a competitive grant must be submitted via this process before submission to the University of Newcastle HREC.
The Faculty of Health has established a Human Research Ethics Peer Review Sub-Committee to oversee this procedure. Representatives of the Committee for each School are,
School of Biomedical Sciences & Pharmacy - Professor Robert Callister
School of Health Sciences - Associate Professor Helen Warren-Forward
School of Medicine & Public Health - Dr Natalie Johnson
School of Nursing & Midwifery - Professor Isabel Higgins
All NEAF and HREC applications for peer review should be submitted electronically to the Faculty's Research & Research Training Officer at FOH-PRC@newcastle.edu.au in the first instance.
Any enquiries can be directed to your respective School Peer Review Committee Representative or Shirley Savy.
