Research
International research recognition
As one of Australia's top 10 research universities, the University of Newcastle continues to be recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in medical and health science research.
The Faculty of Health leads the University in terms of total research funding. Our research is multidisciplinary and collaborative, and complements our integrated undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in medicine and public health, health sciences, biomedical sciences and nursing and midwifery.
Working together with the community
Our research success is due to our direct access to health organisations and the community through the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), which has been a pioneer in coordinating regional health research between the University and government health services.
Building on our research strengths
Our faculty is the major contributor to six of the University's twelve Priority Research Centres, which are a strategic initiative to focus the University's resources into areas of existing and potential research strengths. Priority Research Centres also promote research across faculties and across disciplines.
