Community and Industry

Making industry connections

In the Faculty of Health, we have strong and valuable connections to government bodies, industry and our community. We have active partnerships with both the community and employers through the various Area Health Services, including representation on their Advisory Boards.

Supporting initiatives in our community

The Family Action Centre is a positive and active contributor to the community through such initiatives as the Caravan Parks, Indigenous Health, Boys in Schools and Homestart projects. The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) has been a pioneer in coordinating regional health research between the University and government health services.

In partnership with WorkCover NSW, in September 2005 the Faculty established the WorkCover Research Centre for Excellence, further strengthening these community and industry links.

Strengthening rural health education and research

The Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health (CRRMH) is another important community initiative supported by the Faculty of Health and the NSW Department of Health. CRRMH aims to bring quality education and research programs to all rural areas of NSW through effective partnerships, from its base in Orange. The Centre accesses the collective knowledge and expertise of universities, area mental health services and the resources in rural communities of NSW.
