Description
This course will prepare physiotherapy students for the transition from student to graduate physiotherapist across a variety of health care settings.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of health professional registration and regulation, including relevant professional, ethical and medico-legal issues
2. demonstrate skills in career planning, including preparing job applications and interviews
3. develop skills required to transition to work in public health care settings, including working with government and compensable agencies, and quality improvement activities
4. develop skills required to transition to work in private practice settings, including business skills, working with relevant external agencies and quality improvement activities
5. design strategies for delivering culturally safe health care to people from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians
6. demonstrate advanced interprofessional working skills including, principles of leadership, effective teamwork and conflict resolution
Content
The topics to be covered include:
- Health professional registration and regulation
- Career planning, job applications, and interview techniques
- Knowledge and skills required to work effectively across a variety of public and private health settings; including professional and ethical issues, business management, quality improvement, and working with compensable and other government health support agencies
- Advanced concepts in interprofessional practice, including conflict resolution, delivery of culturally appropriate services to people from diverse backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians.
Assumed knowledge
All 1000, 2000 and 3000 level courses in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) program.
