Why NeW Space?

New technologies are now available that have the potential to transform how universities approach teaching and learning. These new technologies are challenging and exciting for educators as we look to deliver a 'next generation' university experience for students.

NeW Space will allow the University to develop state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to support blended and online learning and support local students in their learning experience. UoNline Plus is our commitment in the NeW Directions Strategic Plan to be innovative users and developers of online material and the technology to support online delivery.

Students have embraced online and blended learning. The 2012 Study of Undergraduate Students and IT by the EDUCAUSE Centre for Applied Research found that two in three students considered technology elevates the level of teaching, and that open educational resources and game-based learning were at the top of the list of what students wished their teachers used more.

A resource for the whole University community

NeW Space will provide a unique platform for our staff to develop and test their ideas that use new and emerging technologies to support innovative approaches to learning and teaching across different disciplinary and knowledge fields, and engage students in new and exciting ways.

Developed as a technology-rich and engaging demonstrator site, the University will maximise the assets of NeW Space to create and pilot education models and pedagogy.
