Research Overview

Mr Mohammad Saidul Islam is a PhD (Law) candidate and is the recipient of a Vice-Chancellor's HDR Training Scholarship.  Mr Islam’s research focuses on Restorative Justice Approach in the Criminal Justice System of Bangladesh: A Comparative Study. Before starting his PhD journey, Islam worked on many legal issues including armed conflict, terrorism, cyber warfare, women`s rights, human rights violations of refugees, humanitarian law, alternative dispute resolution, law of inheritance.

After completing his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Chittagong in 2007 and 2008 respectively, Mr. Islam commenced his career as a university lecturer. He has worked in many universities in Bangladesh from 2008 to 2020 and is now working at the University of Newcastle. He completed a post-graduate diploma on international humanitarian law from Nalsar University, India, under ICRC scholarship in 2013, and in 2017 he was awarded a Master of Philosophy from the University of Chittagong under the prestigious UGC scholarship.

His research experience includes the publication of 12 peer-reviewed articles which appeared in national and international journals and the publication of a book chapter. He has participated and presented papers in number of national and international conferences and delivered lectures in many institutions as a guest lecturer.
