Mrs Margaret Senior OAM Bequest

Establishment

This is a donor funded scholarship established from a bequest from the late Margaret Senior to recognize excellence in a student studying Australia’s unique and pressing climatic, environmental and wildlife needs.

The scholarship will be awarded in March to the student who completed their second year the year prior, with the highest marks in the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management with a Ecosystems and Biodiversity or a Sustainability major.

Applicable to sustainability, environment, Academic Achievement.


Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be enrolled in your 3rd year of the Bachelor of Environmental Science & Management, with an Ecosystems and Biodiversity or Sustainability major with University of Newcastle.
  • Have achieved the highest GPA of those studying the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management and be majoring in Ecosystems and Biodiversity or Sustainability in the previous academic year.
  • Be intending to study on a full-time basis (minimum 60 units per year).
  • Not be the recipient of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship concurrently.

Benefit

This scholarship provides a total benefit of $10,000 for one year. Payment will be made in instalments of $5000 in Semester 1 and 2

Payments are typically received 2–3 weeks after the semester census date, or 2–3 weeks after you accept your offer if the census date has already passed.


Selection

No application is required for this scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated the highest academic performance in their 2nd year of the eligible program and major. Consideration will be given to the cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) in the second year of study.

If required, selection may consider also the number of units studied, cumulative GPA in the program, and ongoing full-time enrolment.

Scholarships Office will liaise with the relevant school/s to determine the eligible recipient.
