Establishment

The MBA Board Pathways Scholarship offers a valuable opportunity for students in the University of Newcastle MBA to accelerate their journey toward board appointments and executive leadership. Through this scholarship, students receive financial support to join the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), with membership valued at approximately $970. Membership enables students to enrol in the highly regarded Company Directors’ Course at the discounted member rate of $9,300, compared to the standard $12,600 non-member fee. The course is available at AICD locations across Australia, providing flexibility and national reach.

Upon successful graduation of the Company Directors’ Course, students are awarded 10 credit points of unspecified directed credit toward their MBA, recognising the academic and professional significance of the program. The course delivers essential board-level knowledge, governance capabilities, and connection to a powerful network of senior leaders and directors across the country. This scholarship reflects the Newcastle Business School’s commitment to developing governance-ready leaders who are equipped to make meaningful contributions in both corporate and community settings.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:

  • Be currently enrolled in and have already completed 40 credit points of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Combined MBA program.
  • Have maintained a GPA of 5.0 or higher.
  • Indicate a commitment to become a member of AICD and undertake the Company Director's Course, noting that you may have to cover membership up front before being reimbursed by the scholarship.

Benefit

This scholarship will cover the AICD membership fee of $970 (New Standard Membership $750 + $220 joining fee) for ten (10) students who enrol in the Company Directors' Course and who meet the eligibility criteria.

Successful students will be reimbursed:

  • after being granted scholarship, and

  • on providing a receipt of payment for membership of the AICD; and

  • on providing evidence of enrolment in the Company Directors' Course.

Selection

Submissions will be send to the Newcastle Business School and awards endorsed by the relevant academic and professional staff.
