Schools
The research conducted by members of the Schools research theme is focussed on school-based interventions designed to promote physical activity and improve fitness and well-being in young people in primary and secondary schools.
Burn 2 Learn
Burn 2 Learn is a school-based physical activity program, designed to improve fitness, support wellbeing and enhance academic achievement among senior school students.
Burn 2 Learn Adapted
Burn 2 Learn adapted (B2La) program promotes participation in vigorous-intensity aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise breaks delivered during school hours, and participation in lifestyle physical activity outside of school. The program represents a new opportunity for adolescents with disability to be physically active at school. It is also designed to enhance adolescents’ physical literacy (i.e., motivation, skills, knowledge and confidence) to support their participation in physical activity once they leave school.
iPLAY
iPLAY is a comprehensive School Physical Activity Program designed for primary schools using an on-line training platform for teachers.
Learning to Lead
Learning to Lead is an innovative project investigating the effects of a school-based leadership program for primary school-aged children. This project generates new knowledge about the importance of leadership skills for students’ self-efficacy, classroom behaviour, and teachers’ well-being and work-related stress.
Resistance Training for Teens
Resistance Training for Teens is a school-based program design to improve fitness among adolescents, and provide them with the skills, confidence, and motivation to participate in resistance training safely and effectively.
Thinking while Moving
Thinking While Moving is a curriculum-based program designed to increase children’s physical activity and improve their on-task behaviour in primary schools.
