Biography

Current Research

My dissertation is part of the ELDTA project "Complex Predicates in Australian and Oceanic Languages". The aim of my dissertation is to determine the semantic implications and syntactic features of complex predicates and serial verb constructions (SVC) in selected languages of Vanuatu with a corpus of significant size and in two languages of Northern Australia, namely Wagiman and Jaminjung.

Academic Background

I received both my BA and MA degree from the Goethe University of Frankfurt in Germany. My bachelors thesis was titled Language Contact: Malay Influence on Thai (2013) and the title of my masters thesis was A Description of Surabayan Javanese with Special Reference to its Linguistic Etiquette (2017). I have done field work in Lembata, Indonesia and published a brief overview of the grammar of Eastern Atadei (also called Painara or South Lembata language), which is often considered a dialect of Lamaholot. I argue that it constitutes a language on its own.

Research Interests

My research interests include linguistic typology, historical linguistics, etymology, and morphosyntax in Southeast Asian and Australian languages, especially Thai, Javanese, and Lamaholot. I like to study and teach various writing systems.
