From EMBA to Executive Manager

Michael Hercock found himself in an Executive role and wanted the extra assurance the EMBA offered to continue his career progression to Executive Manager.

Holding a Masters of Family Therapy from UNSW (University of NSW) and Relationships Australia, Michael found himself in an Executive role building and leading teams.

Michael made the decision to undertake the EMBA “to gain practical, hands-on experience to develop business skills both as a business practitioner and a leader with a recognised Executive qualification.”

Michael says his EMBA experience has ultimately made him a better leader.

“The degree skilled me in taking the next steps in advancing myself and our work through the digital transformation of the workforce within the areas of innovation and design thinking, mindfulness and leadership development,” says Michael.

Another benefit for Michael has been the extensive industry exposure.

“The cohort learning created a diverse learning opportunity with different business leaders allowing you to really look out of the square of your industry and see business from multiple perspectives,” Michael says.

Michael recalls the experience of delivering an enterprise model for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community alongside respected Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Ray Minniecon, as a highlight of his EMBA experience.

Michael says the practical experience, reduced time requirement and small committed cohort helped make his study journey not only possible, but highly valuable. Michael encourages other students to take part in the EMBA.

“Jump in the deep end and give it a go, trust the leaders. They are with you and will walk alongside you, not just lecture,” he says.
