Belle participated in the BMG Indigenous Scholarship as part of her Work Integrated Learning experience. The opportunity inspired her to pursue a career avenue she never knew existed.

Being involved in the BMG Indigenous Scholarship offered Belle insight into the music industry in a way she never knew existed. Taking this opportunity as part of her degree helped shape her career pathway in unexpected ways.

Belle never planned on attending university after completing her HSC. But with a passion for the creative arts, she was encouraged to apply for the Bachelor of Visual Communication Design, and was shocked to find the variety of career pathways and skills it provided.

“I knew I wanted to be in the creative industries, but at the time of enrolling I didn’t know what specific field I wanted to be in. Looking over the Bachelor of Visual Communication Design, I loved that I could try so many things within one degree,” Belle says.

Belle explains her degree provided the opportunity to build on her creative skills and create a solid foundation. From this, she had the chance to work on Festival X 2022.

“Festival X gave me insight into real-world collaborative environments, and taught me valuable lessons in communication and the iteration process.

I made connections with some of the staff, and this led to an opportunity to design the logo and artwork for ‘Ngarrama’ – a free event to engage the community in meaningful reconciliation,” she says.

Having the opportunity to see her work come to life during the Festival X livestream was a special moment and further fuelled her passion for the creative arts.

Belle participated in practical work experience with BMG Australia as part of the BMG Indigenous Scholarship at the end of her degree.

“This placement one hundred per cent enhanced my university experience. It fuelled my passion and showed me all the study leading up to this placement could be practically applied in the workspace,” says Belle.

BMG seeks to help artists and songwriters make the most of their creative content in the digital age through offering first-class creative support for their artists. The scholarship provides a total financial benefit of $15,000.

“The BMG Indigenous Scholarship had an incredible impact on my career journey. This scholarship opened my eyes to the opportunities of the music industry for those who love music but cannot play any instruments or sing.

“Through the Scholarship, I have had experiences and insights into the music industry like no other. I will be forever thankful to BMG for what they have done to aid me in my journey,” says Belle. Feeling supported by her teachers throughout the program gave Belle the confidence to engage in her tutorials and an eagerness to learn.

“I could see all the things I learnt during my studies apply in a real workplace. I felt capable and able to help others with my design knowledge from my degree,” she says.

Since completing her degree, Belle is ready to jump into the creative workspace and make her mark on the industry.
