Jeffrey, a Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Newcastle initially found the experience of moving to a new country daunting and unfamiliar. However, through joining various clubs and immersing himself in the university community, Jeffrey grew to enjoy his time in Newcastle.

One of the clubs he joined is the Japanese-English Club, where served as the treasurer. Additionally, Jeffrey was appointed as the International Student Representative for the Western Pacific Region, further expanding his involvement and connections within the university.

“At first it is quite daunting, honestly, coming to a different country, coming to (an) unfamiliar place. After a while, I start meeting new people, I joined different clubs. I just got used to it, and now I really enjoy my time here right now” Jeffrey said.

Studying at the Newcastle City campus at NUspace, Jeffrey appreciated the abundance of space available for private studies, meetings, and collaborative work with classmates. The campus also provides access to new and emerging technologies, fostering an environment for innovative thinking and idea development.

“There’s so much space around NUspace, where I can do my private studies, or when I need to conduct meetings, or work on my assignments with my friends, or my classmates ” he said.

Looking towards his future, Jeffrey aspires to work as a professional accountant. He recognises the value of the University of Newcastle's accounting major, which is accredited by professional bodies such as CPA, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and ACCA. These accreditations provide him with a range of options and opportunities in his career path.

“So the first step for me, is working towards my accreditations; getting my CPA and ACCA or CAANZ. And that is a good thing about what the University of Newcastle has to offer. Their accounting major is actually accredited by CPA, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or ACCA, so I have options out there for me” he said.

During his free time, Jeffrey finds solace in taking leisurely strolls along the beach, allowing him to unwind and relax amidst the beauty of Newcastle's coastal surroundings.
