“Knowledge is one of the main keys to success. If you want to grow in your career and challenge yourself, it’s important to arm yourself with as much knowledge as there is out there – whatever field you choose.”

Master of Business Administration and Master of Marketing alumnus Laura lives by this notion.

“My choice to pursue postgraduate study was as much about positioning myself well for my future career, as fulfilling my thirst for knowledge and learning new things.

“I’ve had some really fantastic mentors throughout my career who encouraged me to think forward and inspired me to pursue the MBA and Master of Marketing,” Laura said.

Always looking to find her edge in a competitive industry, Laura’s degree helped enhance her skills to think critically and creatively in the workplace. Plus, working alongside her study offered the perfect platform to test her knowledge in real-world situations.

“We live in a global world, faced by many challenges and constant change and evolution. The program inspired me to challenge the status quo and to explore new ideas and concepts to enhance my work.

“I was encouraged to be proactive in applying my study to my work. I felt it had ‘real time’ application which advanced the projects I was working on within my organisation,” Laura said.

Given her work commitments, a program that could be tailored to fit her needs was at the top of Laura’s list.

“One of the reasons I was drawn to the University of Newcastle’s program was because of the flexibility and structure offered.

“It’s possible to study literally anywhere in the world when studying online and due to the sometimes-unpredictable nature of my work, this flexibility allowed me to fit study around my commitments and work,” Laura said.

So, if there were any words of wisdom Laura could offer to potential postgraduate students, what would they be?

“If you’re considering a return to study, don’t feel pressured to take it on all at once. Choose a study load that fits with the demands you have outside of university so you can successfully complete your program while still having time for the things you enjoy.

“Pick something that interests you and give it a go,” Laura concluded.
