Welcome to SORTI

The research, publications and other activities of The Centre for the Study of Research Training and Impact are directed toward the understanding and development of research and higher order problem solving skills, and the impact of research training and research outcomes in a wide variety of contexts, but particularly in tertiary and professional learning environments. Further strands of the Centre’s work extend to the history, philosophy and culture of research, histories of research institutions, mapping research activity and identifying research trends. Much of the Centre’s current work, especially that of its doctoral students, falls within the realm of studies of higher education and instructional models in tertiary level learning.

Congratulations Kylie and Jennifer on obtaining your PhD's.

In December 2009 SORTI put forward a successful research program application in a competitive round of program funding under the umbrella of the new Educational Research Institute Newcastle (ERIN). The program, Adaptive Knowledge Production (AKP), will shape the direction of SORTI for the next three years and build on the multi-ARC grant profile developed in research into the doctorate and areas such as delivery of e-learning and STEM.

The SORTI AKP site provides details of the program and plans for 2010.

Highly successful QSR NVivo 8 Workshops

Are you a PhD Student?
Are you interested in sharing your experiences?

In 2010, Dr Jennifer StGeorge continues her very successful training program for QSR NVivo qualitative research software for RHD candidates. Contributing to the success of the workshops is that variations in participant experiences are integrated into the program and opportunities are provided for students to explore their own data.

For further details contact  Jennifer StGeorge
or for bookings contact Melanie Ball

You are invited to participate in a research project conducted by members of the School of Education, University of Newcastle, to investigate how doctoral candidates perceive and manage the heavy personal and academic demands of doctoral study. The research is open to all students currently enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy program in Australian or overseas.
