Career Summary
Biography
Dr Taylor Young is an Associate Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the University of Newcastle. He completed a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Honours) at the University of Newcastle in 2019 and was awarded his PhD in Electrical Engineering in January 2026.
His research focuses on flexible and soft robotic systems, with a particular interest in sensing, modelling, and control of compliant mechanisms. His work integrates electromagnetic sensing, embedded systems, and control techniques to improve the performance and functionality of soft and flexible robotic actuators.
Dr Young is a member of the University of Newcastle’s Precision Mechatronics Lab, where he contributes to research in advanced sensing and control systems for robotic and mechatronic devices. In addition to his research activities, he teaches within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering program and supervises undergraduate engineering projects.
