Career Summary
Biography
Rachel is an associate lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Australia, where she coordinates undergraduate core courses in the Bachelor of Education degree program. She holds a Bachelor of Teaching/Arts with a major in literacy, and has over a decade of teaching experience in primary school and tertiary settings. Rachel teaches literacies with a focus on the English curriculum and children’s literature. Her research interests include: literacies for the 21st century; student engagement and learners’ self-efficacy; and best practices in reading and writing instruction. Her current research seeks to organise and highlight strategies and tools to support teachers to use and implement the best quality research available to guide their pedagogical choices around the use of books for the teaching of reading in diverse primary classrooms.
