Biography

Dr. Mary Jane Dalton is a medical professional with a rich and diverse background. She earned her undergraduate degree in genetics, which laid a strong foundation in basic science and provided an opportunity for her to work in bench-based genetic research. Dr. Dalton earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at Vanderbilt University in the US, where she then trained in and practiced paediatrics.  In her paediatric practice she was passionate about caring and advocating for young patients and enjoyed observing and participating in their growth and development.  Her interest in public health advocacy led her to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she trained in applied epidemiology while serving as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer.

In 1995, Dr. Dalton relocated to Australia, bringing her extensive expertise to a new environment. Since 2002, she has been dedicated to medical education, with a keen interest in the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) process and group dynamics. Dr. Dalton had a primary role in the development of Phase One of the MD program, and is passionate about developing curricula that help students integrate basic science, clinical medicine, and public health in a meaningful way.  She is also committed to creating an environment that fosters the growth of caring and compassionate professionals in the medical field.
