Biography


Leah graduated from the University of Newcastle (UON) with a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Radiation Therapy) in 2008. She worked clinically as a Radiation Therapist for close to ten years, presenting her research at a number of conferences and being awarded  Best Poster Presentation Winner in 2012, before embarking on an academic career as an Associate Lecturer in Radiation Therapy at UON where her passion for student education is admired.

In 2019 Leah completed a Certificate in Teaching and Fundamentals in University Teaching Certificate through UON, expanding her enthusiasm for the growth and development of others through the creation of inclusive, dynamic and encouraging learning environments.

Global Centre for Research and Training in Radiation Oncology

Leah's extensive clinical experience has made her a core member of the UON's Global Centre for Research and Training in Radiation Oncology as the Outreach Program Manager. With a focus on future student engagement and opportunity for industry sustainability, Leah enjoys showcasing a career in radiation therapy by participating in career expos and touring laboratory spaces to over 2000 high school students a year.

Leah is a devoted patient advocate and is currently undertaking a Higher Degree by Research with a focus on improving global Radiation Therapy utilisation through the development of an education program for General Practitioners on Radiation Oncology. Leah hopes to provide global equitable access to the educational program moving towards closing the gap in radiation oncology education for referring doctors, providing direct alignment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
