Career Summary
Biography
I am a physiotherapist and an early-career postdoctoral researcher dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of people living with chronic respiratory conditions.
My passion for respiratory research began during my Master’s degree, where I validated functional tests for asthma. This experience led me to pursue a PhD, conferred in March 2024, focusing on extrapulmonary and behavioural treatable traits in adults with asthma. I completed both my Master’s and PhD at Pitagoras-UNOPAR University in Brazil. I have been honoured to receive recognition for my work, including an Honourable Mention for the best thesis in Physiotherapy in Brazil (2024).
A competitive PhD exchange scholarship brought me to Newcastle, Australia, where I worked with Professor Vanessa McDonald. This collaboration resulted in my current postdoctoral fellowship in her research group. My current projects focus on reducing systemic corticosteroid use through the treatable traits model. I am also studying muscle strength, body composition, and breathlessness in people with bronchiectasis. In addition, I am contributing to a study designed to reduce hospitalisations through home-based pulmonary rehabilitation.
My research career has been strengthened by my clinical background. I completed a two-year residency program in pulmonary physiotherapy and worked for six years as a hospital physiotherapist in Brazil, gaining extensive experience in managing respiratory diseases.
With my combined clinical and research experience, I aim to integrate theory and practice to deliver meaningful improvements in the care of people with chronic respiratory diseases.
