Career Summary

Biography

Dr Jayne Jones is a registered dental surgeon with over 38 years’ experience in private and public dental practice. She graduated from London University as a dentist in 1984 and worked as a general dentist in private/NHS practice in the South of England for 2 years before emigrating to Australia in June 1988.

Jayne has worked in private practices in various locations in Sydney as well as being a clinical tutor in Oral Surgery at the University of Sydney for 2 years. In 2001 she set up her own dental surgery in West Pymble which operated successfully until May 2018, when it was sold.

She was a valued member of the North Shore community and regularly visited the local schools and preschools to provide Oral Health education to children, parents and teachers. In 2002 she was filmed in her practice as the dentist for the ABC children’s production, Playschool.

During her time in the West Pymble Practice, she also worked as a volunteer forensic dentist with Prof Jane Taylor at the Glebe mortuary and assisted with the Continuing Professional Development course in Forensic Odontology at the University of Sydney.

In July 2016 Jayne joined the University of Newcastle as a clinical tutor in the Oral Health Clinic and took on a full-time position as a lecturer early in 2019. She has commenced working on her PhD and her area of research is the development of model of care to provide familiarisation for patients with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. She has a special interest in dentistry for patients with special needs, the elderly and children, and believes in the need for a preventive focus to general dentistry.

During 2018-2019 Jayne also worked as a dental officer at Wyong hospital and mentored the newly graduated dentists to assist and develop their clinical experience in the public sector. During this time, she also supervised the Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy students at Wyong hospital. In 2021 she continued working as a general dentist in private practice and in 2022 returned to a full time position at the University of Newcastle as an Industry and Clinical Educator in Oral Health.
