Career Summary

Biography

Dean started his academic career lecturing at Macquarie University, Division of Environmental and Life Sciences, Department of Health in 2001 as a contractor. Here he gained much experience teaching into numerous subjects for both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes until 2004. In 2004 he successfully gained a full time position as a Clinical Fellow within the Department. In the role of Clinical Fellow Dean's teaching focused more specifically on clinically related subjects (Preclinical Studies, Clinical Internship and Professional Studies) and in this role included the responsibility of managing one of the Department's four Outpatient Clinics & Research Centres. In 2006 Dean accepted an academic position at Sydney University, Faculty of Health, School of Biomedical Sciences (Cumberland) teaching Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. During 2006 and 2007 Dean guest lectured into the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science degree at Newcastle University, Central Coast Campus and in early 2007 accepted a position with Newcastle University, Faculty of Health, School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy, Discipline of Anatomy teaching Anatomy and Physiology into a number of the Universities professional degree programs.

Research Expertise
For many years Dean has been interested in the Epidemiology of common sporting injuries. This has included the documentation, investigation and management of injuries towards prevention. Dean's research interests have resulted in his working at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, numerous University Games and consulting with professional Basketball organisations including the former Sydney Kings, West Sydney Razorbacks and in more recent years the Association of Surfing Professionals - International.
