Career Summary
Biography
Dr Ken Chun Kit Uy is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Newcastle. Before joining UoN, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU), and also worked as a Visiting Lecturer at HKPolyU’s College of Professional and Continuing Education. He earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from HKPolyU and a BEng in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His work combines advanced CFD and theoretical analysis, including the development of in-house solvers and extensive use of open-source platforms such as OpenFOAM.
Research areas
Detonation phenomena: DNS, reduced-order modelling, and stability
Boundary-layer transition: DNS, flow stability, and passive control (e.g., porous coatings)
Machine learning for compressible-flow CFD
Flapping micro aerial vehicle (MAV) design
Dr Uy welcomes enquiries from prospective HDR/PhD students and collaborators, particularly those interested in high-speed reacting flows, flow instability, and modelling for aerospace/renewable energy/safety applications.
