Career Summary

Biography

Chris Jordan-Clark came to Newcastle University with a widely varied number of influences in her background.

 

Her research interests include feminism, women in literature (as characters, writers and readers), Jane Austen and the long eighteenth century.

 

She studied Urban Horticulture in the 1980s and has worked in plant nurseries and in garden design.

 

In the 1990s she began her university career, completing a undergraduate degree at Newcastle with a double major in Sociology and English Literature.

 

She had a long career in public welfare and worked as the National Co-ordinator of Customer Relations for Centrelink, the Australian Federal Government welfare agency.

 

After leaving the government position, Chris studied Fine Art for four years and has exhibited as a lithographer.

 

In 2014, she returned to the University of Newcastle to undertake Honours in English Literature. She obtained First Class Honours and was awarded the Faculty Medal for the Faculty of Education and Arts.

 

In 2022 she was awarded a PhD for her thesis "Jane Austen's Unromantic Landscapes". Her thesis is being developed into two books, the first of which will be published in 2025.
