Completing her Bachelor of Business in 2017, Ruofei (Roffy) Li, discovered the University of Newcastle via a partnership within her home country in China at Sichuan International Study University.

“The collaborative relationship between my Chinese university and the University of Newcastle, with good facilities and top rankings were key factors for my choice,” she said.

Recalling her experience at the University as transforming her understanding of marketing and the meaning of advertising, this helped shape her career and future interests.

“The University of Newcastle helped me understand things as a marketing person, which I use in my role now. What are they thinking about and what is the point and meaning of advertising,”

“This was a turning point for me to found out what is the field I interested in,” she said.

Whilst studying, Roffy worked within the University as a WeChat editor, this experience encouraged her study and career direction.

“When I studied at Newcastle, my major was HR management, I chose some marketing course to study as well, and worked as an editor of the University of Newcastle WeChat Official account for nearly a year,” Roffy said.

Taking advantage of the beach lifestyle and encouraging atmosphere Newcastle has to offer, Roffy felt refreshed during her studies, even during exams.

"The University is a good place for the overseas students when they start their overseas study journey. I guess there is no place better than UoN to study! Once you feel exhausted in the library, you can step to the beach and relax for a moment, that might be the most relax time for me during the final weeks when I was there,” Roffy said.

Recalling how her studies have positively impacted her career, Roffy hopes to continue her career success into the future.

“I still enjoy the delight that advertising brings to me, and I would like to say this field is where my passion is. I’m working on getting to a place where I can write down my name, or ad, on the Cannes award,” she said.

Roffy encourages other international students to live like a local and embrace the lifestyle in Newcastle.

“My advice is enjoying the life here like local, be tolerant and open mind to everything new, play hard and study hard”. Roffy said.
