Working as a senior manager in the business and technology sector within the Australian market and looking to expand internationally, the Master of Business Administration/Master of International Business has provided Ash with the opportunity to be more defined in his career.

“This is an opportunity to formalise a lot of experience I’ve gained in the last 20 years of my career, tighten my process so I can be as effective as possible for my teams, business and customers,” he said.

Having a supportive and understanding study experience while juggling a young family, full time work and study helped Ash find his feet and stay motivated with a busy schedule.

“I don’t have a spare minute in my day, and most of my study happens outside the house. Things are prioritised on a ‘who yells the loudest’ basis – which is often my 15-month-old. I appreciate how understanding and helping the teachers and support teams can be,” Ash said.

To get the most out of his experience, Ash incorporates his study directly into his working life.

“I try to find ways to apply everything I learn to my work as soon as possible – it's the best way to get the most out of the experience,” he said.

Enjoying the in-person experience and connection to real world concepts, Ash feels more confident in his career investment.

“It has been great to meet people in adjacent domains with different experiences but on a similar track to myself.

“Being great at what I do has a multiplicative effect on the network of folks I get to work alongside and the customers we service. Building better businesses, processes, systems, and technology makes people’s lives easier,” he said.

Describing his focus of studying, Ash hopes to expand on his current skills to be the best leader for his team.

“I wanted to expand on the skillset I could apply as a tech-leader within the organisations I work in, be it managing my teams better, working with other business units or being a useful part of the international expansion conversations,” Ash said.

Ash encourages others wanting to undertake postgraduate study to jump in and engage.

“Make the space, focus on the opportunities that give you high-fidelity in person interactions, apply what you learn, engage, and build your network – these people will be the leaders of whatever industry you are working in tomorrow. Invest in them and they will invest in you.” he said.
