Bachelor of Business Analytics | Callaghan Campus | Graduating 2026

Evie Nguyen moved from Vietnam to Newcastle to study Business Analytics and she is making every moment count. When she’s not studying, you might find her baking something sweet or braving a cheeky winter swim.

High quality education and support

Evie chose the program for its affordability and structured placement programs but it’s the people that have kept her here. She highlights the mentors like the academic staff and support counsellors that were consistent sources of encouragement.

“I value engagement and for me, that is when I get to learn best. At the university, support staff are readily available and that support network encourages me to be more confident in taking initiatives, whether it is for my academic progress or an engagement project that offers community outreach.”

She also loves the opportunities the Newcastle region offers for exploration.

“The focus on technology adoption and economic growth opens up amazing opportunities for young graduates.”

Getting involved

Evie made the most of work opportunities and career ready placements while studying her degree, from student support in the Future Students team to tech roles with Digital Tech & Solutions, collaborating with different support teams such and academic staffs.

“These roles are meaningful learning opportunities. I get to see how businesses operate while practicing professional skills.”

“I find that through such initiatives, I get to further develop interpersonal skills, which are highly transferrable in workplace environments. I view such mentoring sessions as minor projects for self-improvement, and I find that it allows me to be more engaged with the wider university community.”

She also took advantage of the with support services like Career Services offered by the university.

“The Career Services have been great help and offers one-on-one mentoring sessions. Their industry events are also very beneficial as they allow students to learn about available opportunities and connect with peers and employers.”

Favourite spots on campus

Evie notes that the library is perfect for focused study sessions. She also finds the Health and Pathology clinics convenient and lifesaving.

“The library is a reliable space for most academic needs, whether it'd be for students to use facilities such as leaning spaces and printing or for meetings with support teams. The health and pathology clinics have been absolute lifesavers (quite literally!) because I can fit appointments into study/work schedule which would be impossible if I need to go off campus. These onsite facilities allow me to go about my days with minimal disruptions.”

Looking ahead

Evie is exploring roles that combine tech, business development, and community outreach.

“I’m excited to be part of future cohorts helping grow the region’s economy,” she shares.

Evie’s advice for future students

Evie explains that change can be intimidating but having supportive communities who are available to offer guidance is a great help.

“Take a leap of faith, embrace challenges with an open mind, and stay curious for knowledge.”

Evie’s story shows that university is more than studying, it’s about finding your people, building skills, and discovering what you are capable of.
