Ruchika’s journey to becoming a doctor

Ruchika, a dedicated Joint Medical Program (JMP) student from Nepal, is on a transformative journey at the University of Newcastle, exploring the intricacies of the human body and the art of healing.

Ruchika’s path to the University of Newcastle began with her desire to delve deeply into the world of medicine. Drawn to the university's comprehensive five-year JMP program, she found the blend of practical and problem-based learning perfectly aligned with her aspirations. "The program's focus on practical learning and real-world application is what captivated me," Ruchika reflects.

Her fascination with the human body and its functions fuels her daily studies. "Learning about the human body and its complexities is incredibly fascinating. Each day brings new insights and challenges," she shares.

The highlight of Ruchika's academic experience has been the hands-on placements, allowing her to apply theoretical knowledge in real medical settings. "These placements have been invaluable, offering a glimpse into the direct impact we can have on people's lives as medical professionals," she notes.

Ruchika spends most of her study time at the Callaghan campus, where she finds the anatomy lab and library particularly beneficial. "These facilities have significantly enhanced my understanding and skills in medical science," she says.

Looking towards the future, Ruchika aspires to become a doctor, with plans for further specialisation. "My goal is to contribute positively to the medical field, continually advancing my knowledge and skills," she states.
