“With the thoughts that I could meet new people, refresh my brain, get a feel for the university and the campus, and find something to do with my time, I knew NUPrep was worth a shot.”

Noah hesitantly enrolled in a Bachelor of Medical Engineering at The University of Newcastle straight from high school. Despite wanting to do a Maths degree, he was told that this would lead him nowhere.

Between finishing high school and starting university, Noah spent his time teaching learn to surf lessons and working at Coles.

“After two months, I began to get restless and saw NUPrep being advertised as a free head start to prepare for my studies” he said.

“At the start of the year, I was unsure about how well I would handle the step up into university,” Noah confessed. However, “by the end of the year, I ended up achieving a High Distinction in 7 of the 8 courses I took. It was certainly a confidence booster and NUPrep was great to prepare me.”

Noah credits Dr. Scott Sciffer, his NUPrep Mathematics tutor, who inspired him to pursue his passion of Mathematics.

“After reading through his work and hearing his story, I had made my decision to transfer programs by the end of the first semester,” Noah explains.

Starting his Mathematics degree in 2024, Noah says he is now on route to pursue a PhD in Mathematics with the hope of continuing into mathematical research and becoming a lecturer and eventually a professor.

Noah highlights socialising with his peers at Bar on the Hill and learning from staff who portrayed so much passion and enthusiasm for their programs, as key experiences during his time undertaking NUPrep.
