When researching universities in Australia, the University of Newcastle stood out to Ganesh for its excellent health management, policy courses. “The University’s impressive rankings and esteemed reputation played a key role in my decision.” Ganesh confirms. “As a Master of Health, Economics, Management and Policy (MHEMP) student, I was drawn to its exceptional research programs, distinguished faculty, and dynamic campus environment, all of which are globally acclaimed for fostering academic excellence and innovation.”

Ganesh’s passion lies in evaluating healthcare systems to enhance efficiency and outcomes. “I am driven by a desire to tackle public health challenges through evidence-based policies, cost-effectiveness analysis, and innovative solutions, aiming for equitable and sustainable healthcare for everyone. I also aspire to contribute to societies with limited resources, such as Nepal and regional Australia.”

Studying across both NUspace and the Callaghan campus, Ganesh has made good use of the advanced labs, health clinics, and the library. “Access to the Postgraduate room (in the Auchmuty Library) is crucial for my assignments, providing invaluable equipment and practical learning in health economics and policy, preparing me effectively for future challenges.”

With a background in microbiology, Ganesh’s career goal is to enhance healthcare efficiency and equity through policy development and implementation. “Throughout my degree, I’ve acquired new skills in health economics and policy analysis, built crucial industry relationships, and gained practical experience through research projects. These experiences have been invaluable in preparing me to address real-world healthcare management and policy issues.”

Ganesh plans to finish his research thesis by the end of the year, reflecting on how his university experiences have significantly enhanced his career prospects. “The education and experiences at the University of Newcastle have significantly enhanced my career prospects, enabling me to pursue roles where I can apply economic analysis to healthcare policy and management,” he shares.

Beyond academics, Ganesh has embraced the lifestyle Newcastle offers. He enjoys the city’s coastal charm and friendly community atmosphere. In his spare time, he loves exploring the beautiful beaches, trying out local cafes and restaurants, and participating in the vibrant cultural events the city has to offer.

Financially, receiving a scholarship has been a key factor in easing his journey. “Receiving the scholarship greatly alleviated my financial burdens,” he notes. For future students facing similar challenges, he strongly recommends applying for scholarships early and seeking advice from the university to find the right financial support.

For international students considering studying at the University of Newcastle, Ganesh offers this advice: “Explore programs that match your aspirations, look into scholarships, and connect with current students or alumni for valuable insights into campus life.”
