With a passion for dance and the way performing arts connects people from any cultural background. Tatjana is studying a Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts, aspiring to incorporate social justice and dance through her studies.

“I am passionate about social justice and promoting cultural awareness through my love of dance. I plan to broaden my knowledge regarding studying, writing, human rights, and injustices and further express this through the art of dance globally in the future,” she said.

Tatjana is determined to become an influential advocate for social issues raised by her peers. Using this as a key driver for studying Law, she hopes to inspire future generations and reach her full potential.

“A legal education appeals to me because it builds resilience and grit, and aids in developing core skills relating to abstract thinking and practical problem-solving,” she said.

Wanting to explore the potential of international travel, cultural immersion and getting out of her comfort zone, Tatjana applied for the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarship. This scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship in Australian undergraduate studies.

As part of the NCP Scholarship, Tatjana received an opportunity to study in New Caledonia for a three-week mobility program. Utilizing her French major, she was able to speak the language of the locals and appreciate a different culture.

“I would say that this experience taught me more than a language. I learned to appreciate a new way of life, food, culture, and music,” she said.

Throughout the scholarship program, students are given opportunities to participate in various internships. For Tatjana, this recently included an internship with Yokohama Theatre Group in Japan.

“The cultural immersion facilitated by the NCP will allow me to return home and build my ambassadorial skills as a representative of Australian culture. I would use these skills to establish dance programs between the Indo-Pacific and Australia, and strengthen the cultural competence between students,” she said.

Tatjana’s advice to students considering applying for the NCP Scholarship is to connect your passion with the missions of the program.

“Consider the value that you can bring to Australia’s mission as a country to connect with people in the Indo-Pacific region. Rather than considering your skills and qualities as a potential scholar, have clear reasons that demonstrate your willingness to advance intercultural competence, global awareness, and initiative to create opportunities for growth in Australia,” she said.
