Syahmina has always been passionate about architectural activism. With a strong desire to bring her knowledge back to her home country of Malaysia, Syahmina aspires to establish an organization that can make a positive impact on various communities in the built environment.

“My goals for the future are that I can bring back my knowledge to Malaysia and create an organisation that could help different communities in the built environment.”

Throughout her studies in the Bachelor of Design (Architecture) program, Syahmina finds great joy in the diverse interactions she has with students from different academic years. This not only enhances her networking skills but also opens up opportunities for future employment prospects.

“It allows networking in a different way that can help us in terms of finding jobs after our studies.”

Beyond her academic pursuits, Syahmina actively participates in the Malaysian Student Association, a platform that brings together students from her home country and allows her to forge connections with individuals from various ethnicities and backgrounds. This enriches her experience, broadens her perspectives, and fosters lasting friendships.

Syahmina's advice to prospective students considering the University of Newcastle is a testament to the welcoming and supportive nature of the university community. She highlights the helpfulness of the people she has encountered and emphasises the lifelong friendships she has formed during her time there.

"The people here are very helpful and very welcoming. I’ve created friendships that would last me forever, honestly.” she says.
