Shrooq Alhomad, a lecturer at Qassim University in Saudi Arabia, embarked on an academic journey to the University of Newcastle, influenced by its esteemed reputation and high recommendations from students she connected with via social media.

"Studying at a university with a high rank like Newcastle will contribute to my development as a faculty member," she stated, highlighting the significance of the university's standing in her decision.

Sponsored by Qassim University and the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in Australia, Shrooq has been able to focus effectively on her studies and skill development. "I am so grateful for this support, as it allows me to concentrate more on studying and developing my skills," she added.

Reflecting on her experience in the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP), Shrooq commended the program’s diverse teaching methods, the flexibility to progress at her own pace, and the cooperative classroom activities.

“In addition, the teachers are amiable and patient,” she said, “which makes me not worry about making mistakes during the learning process.”

Shrooq credits the ELBP with preparing her effectively for her PhD. “Besides gaining profound knowledge, it has prepared me strongly for my PhD stage, such as successfully sharpening my academic writing and presentation skills and managing multitasking.”

During her time at the University of Newcastle, Shrooq has enjoyed the positive and secure environment, the comprehensive facilities, and the breathtaking library. "Everything a student needs can be found here," she observed.

Living in Newcastle, Shrooq spends her free time with family, exploring the city's natural beauty. "Beauty surrounds you everywhere in Newcastle city, from the greatness of the ocean to the green trees and the warm smiles," she remarked.

Shrooq's future goals include attaining a high position in her career and focusing on research issues. Her experience at the University of Newcastle has been more than an academic pursuit; it has been a rich personal and learning experience.
