Building a future in accounting

Pengfei Gao, a Master of Professional Accounting student from China, was initially drawn to the University of Newcastle due to its academic excellence, scholarship opportunities, and strategic location.

"The high rankings and strong reputation of the university were major factors in my decision to study here," he said.

Pengfei is deeply passionate about accounting, seeing it as a versatile field that opens doors to various career paths. "Accounting is not just about numbers; it's about making informed decisions. The program here has given me a robust foundation in financial and managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation," he explained.

Studying at NUspace, Pengfei has found the university's facilities to be top-notch. "The state-of-the-art facilities at NUspace have significantly enhanced my learning experience," he noted.

Receiving a scholarship was a game-changer for Pengfei. "I'm incredibly grateful for the scholarship. Without it, studying in Newcastle would not have been possible. It has eased the financial burden and allowed me to focus on my academic journey," he said.

Pengfei has also been active outside the classroom, participating in the Australia-China Youth Association (ACYA). "The club organises various activities that are not only fun but also culturally enriching," he added.

In terms of work experience, Pengfei has taken a unique route. "I've been working part-time in home renovation. It's physically demanding but intellectually stimulating. It has taught me the value of hard work and given me a different perspective on life," he shared.

Looking ahead, Pengfei has clear career goals. "After graduation, I plan to return to China and work in government departments. The education I've received here, coupled with the university's strong reputation, will undoubtedly open doors for me back home," he stated.
