Lanchakorn has a dream of pursuing a career in health sciences. When considering higher education, she and her family began searching for a university known for its excellent environment, wide range of courses, and supportive pathway programs. With a strong reputation on the world stage, and ranked among the top 200 universities in the world, the University of Newcastle was an excellent choice.

Lanchakorn began the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) to strengthen her English and academic skills, but while attending an orientation tour, she discovered her favourite place on campus.

“[The] Uni Library was my favourite part of Callaghan campus. I liked to have lunch, and group study with my friends. It was a great memory that I won’t forget.”

The ELBP has helped Lanchakorn gain new skills and confidence. “I always use techniques from ELBP, such as research reports - how to paraphrase in my essay, using other sources to support my ideas. Another benefit is the improvement of my English skills”, she said.

“At first, it will be difficult to begin, especially learning speed of speech or accent in Australia. If you can find your own way by using these skills, you will achieve your goal because ELBP has instructed speaking, reading, writing, listening.”

Through the award-winning Student Experience Program, Lanchakorn had the opportunity to practice speaking quickly with students in different classes and locals in Newcastle. “There were some questions to discuss, playing some games. As a result, we exchanged our lifestyles and refreshed our brains to begin lessons,” she explained.

Feeling prepared for her future studies, Lanchakorn believes that the ELBP has been a significant help. She is now in the Foundation Studies program at the University of Newcastle’s College of International Education, focusing on health sciences.

“The program also improved my speaking skills which is my weakness. Thanks to this program, I am growing in confidence.”

Lanchakorn plans to move onto a Pharmacy degree and feels that living in Newcastle is one of the best aspects of studying at the University.

“I love everything in Newcastle. This area is peaceful. People are nice and kind. There are numerous traditional restaurants. I always enjoy spending free time with my friends”, she concluded.
