Managing projects made easier
Completing a Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle in 2019, Aiden planned to travel the world and live overseas.
However, when COVID struck, his plans changed, and he decided to move his future postgraduate study plans to the present.
“I had heaps of time on my hands and always had the intent to study a masters later in life,” he said.
“I figured I may as well just get it done now while I still know the ins and outs of the university.”
Originally starting in the Master of Environmental Management and Sustainability program, Aiden realised he could use the flexible program plan to his advantage.
“With this program, I have quite a few electives, so I wanted to use [them] to gain another qualification” he said.
“I chose the Graduate Certificate because Project Management principles are universal, and I was interested in gaining a better understanding.”
Balancing both programs part-time, Aiden also maintains a full-time role at the NSW Department of Customer Service.
Opting to use his time wisely, Aiden has been proactive in his time management and enjoys the flexibility the program offers to be able to juggle work and life.
“The structure of the program is very flexible as it’s all online. I have been completing it part-time as I have work,” he said.
Aiden has already seen how the Graduate Certificate in Project Management can be applied to his current role, feeling more confident and organised within his current projects.
“The principles of project management can be applied to nearly anything when you’re in an office-based job.
“I feel a lot more organised with it now than any campaigns I would do prior,” he said.
Not putting on the pressure of specific career goals just yet, Aiden is confident that when the right role comes along, he will be ready for it.
“I’ve never really been one to try to set goals and milestones for my career because life changes,” he said.
“But once I have completed the Graduate Certificate, I’m sure that it will be implemented in my work throughout my career.”
