Graduating at the end of 2021 with a Master of Materials Science and Engineering, Vibin is committed to making a difference in his field.

From the southern Indian town of Sivakasi, Vibin completed his undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering at India’s Anna University before enrolling in a master’s degree at the University of Newcastle.

“I chose to study at the University of Newcastle as the program focuses on exciting and internationally relevant applications of nanomaterials, which I am passionate about, including energy storage and conversion, catalysis, carbon capture and drug delivery on cancer cells.”

Vibin says the biggest highlights from his degree have been the practical learning opportunities and chances to gain real-world industry experience.

“The ability to receive hands-on research training in a variety of areas and interact with partners to make industry connections has well prepared me for success in the future.”

Along with completing a master’s degree Vibin also works at the university’s Global office, which he says has been a valuable experience.

“Working at the Global office has helped me to improve my language and communication skills, adding to my repository of soft skills which will be valuable when I am looking for a job after graduation.”

Throughout his time working and studying at Newcastle, Vibin has realised the importance of building a support network.

“I began to develop a network of people around me, particularly from the university’s Global office and the Indian Student’s Association,” Vibin says. “I have made some long-lasting friends here who will be friends for life.”

”I can confidently say that I made the right decision to complete my master’s degree at the University of Newcastle,” Vibin says. “I am receiving hands-on training on the fabrication of batteries and supercapacitors as a part of my work. These rich experiences will help me to develop my career path in research and development.”

Although Vibin has big plans for the future, he intends to keep his ties with the University of Newcastle and the network he has built for himself here. “I plan to keep in touch with the university community and stay engaged through the alumni network after I graduate.”
