Pursuing undergraduate studies was always on the cards for Chloe. Dipping her toe into university life, Chloe started out in the Bachelor of Arts before transferring to a Bachelor of Nursing. It was here that her interest was truly peaked after taking a public health course. For Chloe, it was an easy decision to navigate to the Bachelor of Public and Community Health and she hasn’t looked back since.

“After completing my first year of nursing, I decided that the hands on, treatment-focused kind of healthcare wasn’t where I wanted to be. That led to me finding out about the new Bachelor of Public and Community Health degree and I think the preventative, upstream approach to health was much more suited to my interests,” Chloe said.

As the first bachelor degree in the world to embrace ‘Big Picture’ Learning Design, this program allows students to choose what, how and when they learn – an approach that’s had a remarkable impact on Chloe’s study journey.

“Big Picture learning has provided a significant change in my academic life. It’s allowed me to more freely explore what I’m passionate about and choose projects that align with that instead of working on course work just to tick the boxes.

“My degree is helping me work on my professional skills, including communicating with a variety of people and stakeholders. I’ve also had opportunities to work on real community projects in schools which have been helpful in allowing me to apply my knowledge in a practical setting,” Chloe said.

Throughout high school, Chloe always wanted to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career helping people any way she could. And while there are many opportunities once she finishes her studies, Chloe ultimately just wants to make a difference in the world.

“Although I haven’t found a specific area of public health and health promotion I want to focus on career-wise, I have gained interest in rural and remote health, particularly within Australia. At the moment, I’m just focusing on further developing my knowledge and skills and doing so in an area that I’m passionate about – that being health,” Chloe finished.
