A global numbers game in applied finance

Azka’s study journey began with a Bachelor of Accounting from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in Pakistan. After returning to Australia, she set her sights on getting a job at one of the big four banks and enrolled in a double Master of Applied Finance and Master of Business Administration to help her get there.

“I’ve always been interested in numbers and keeping myself updated with what is going on in the finance sector. I also enjoy studying different currencies, economies and their effect around the globe,” said Azka.

“After moving back to Australia, I decided to pursue postgraduate study to better understand the Australian financial landscape. I knew it would increase my career growth opportunities and I would have the qualification worthy to target employment in a big four bank.”

With a clear vision for where she hoped her career would lead, Azka’s postgraduate study supported her in developing the expertise needed to achieve her career goals.

“I’ve learnt a lot from my applied finance program. I’ve developed a deep understanding and had demonstrated experience in investment analysis, corporate finance, financial modelling and valuation.

“It’s offered knowledge from basic statistics, accounting, economics and financial planning and extended to complex courses like investments and derivatives. It really teaches you all there is to know,” added Azka.

Even while studying two postgraduate programs, Azka always found a moment to enjoy the little things – like a coffee and the best view in NeW Space.

“Studying at NeW Space has been really enjoyable. If I was ever stuck with an assignment, grabbing a coffee and going to level eight to take in those mesmerising views always helped me,” continued Azka.

But when it comes to the highlight of her studies, it wasn’t the coffee breaks or CBD views, it was finding out she was awarded both her degrees with distinction.

“The most exciting moment for me was when I learnt that I was graduating both my degrees with distinction.

“I was ecstatic. I felt that all the effort I had put in over the past two years paid off. It was a really rewarding experience overall,” concluded Azka.
