Professor Belinda Tynan is a respected higher education leader with extensive experience shaping academic strategy, digital innovation, and sector-wide transformation. She joined the University of Newcastle as Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) in 2025, bringing a strong record of driving high‑quality education, inclusive learning environments, and institutional excellence.

Belinda has held senior executive roles across leading universities in Australia and the UK, including RMIT University, The Open University, the University of Southern Queensland, and the University of New England. Her work has consistently focused on delivering outstanding student outcomes, strengthening academic quality, and supporting staff to innovate in teaching and learning.

Before joining the University, Belinda was Deloitte Australia’s National Education Lead, advising government and tertiary sectors on operating models, digital transformation, and future-focused education strategy. She has also contributed significantly to governance across the sector, serving on boards including the Commonwealth of Learning, Open Universities Australia, FutureLearn, and community and education organisations.

Recognised for her leadership and impact, Belinda was named one of the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Women of Influence (2019) and received the Telstra Victorian Businesswoman of the Year Award (2020).
