Leading our global engagement with impact

Dr Aleksandr (Alek) Voninski is a respected higher education leader with extensive experience across the global education ecosystem. He joined the University of Newcastle in 2024, bringing a strong track record of developing successful global partnerships, English language assessment expertise, and operational excellence in higher education.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global), Dr Voninski leads global partnership initiatives, transnational education investments, international relations, student exchange and alumni relations for the University of Newcastle. With Newcastle, Alek is building integrated opportunities to raise the University profile and provide transformational opportunities for our students and graduates.

Dr Voninski has over 30 years of work experience across the Indo-Pacific international education ecosystem, including English language assessment, government relations, global partnership development and student recruitment.

From high school studies in Beijing, to research scholarship in Tokyo, to hosting a popular entertainment TV show in Shanghai, Alek draws on a diverse range of experiences from over a decade living in East Asia.

Dr Voninski is a graduate of the University of Sydney Law School and completed his doctoral research with the University of Southern California (USC). He is a Senior Fellow with IEAA and a member of the national research committee on international education.
